SkinPen® with Plasma for Hair Restoration

SkinPen with plasma is a great option for treating thinning hair or baldness. Hair restoration using your blood’s own plasma may help people with androgenetic alopecia, which is a common type of hair loss that affects both men and women. It may also help people with alopecia areata, which is an autoimmune condition that causes patchy hair loss. Most of the studies found that injections of plasma reduced hair loss and increased the diameter of hairs and the density of hair growth.

Hair restoration with plasma is a treatment that uses platelets from your own blood that contain growth factors and healing properties to stimulate hair growth in people with hair loss. First, our Medical Assistant, Alex, draws a sample of your blood, which is processed in a centrifuge to separate the platelets from the other blood components. Then, our Medical Aesthetician, Erica, injects the plasma into the scalp, where it can activate the cells in the hair follicles and promote the production of new hair. Hair restoration with SkinPen microneedling and plasma hair restoration is considered a safe and natural treatment, as it uses the person’s own blood and does not involve any chemicals or drugs.

During your follow-up appointment, Erica evaluates your results and discusses any necessary next steps with you.

Hair restoration with plasma is not recommended for patients using blood thinners, are heavy smokers, have a history of alcohol or drug misuse, have acute or chronic infections, cancer, chronic liver disease, chronic skin disease, hemodynamic instability, hypofibrinogenemia, metabolic disorder, platelet dysfunction syndromes, systemic disorder, sepsis, low platelet count, or thyroid disease.

HydraFacial® Keravive Hair Restoration Treatment

The gentle but powerful cleansing power of HydraFacial combined with the Keravive Peptide Complex Solution can help you regrow your hair. The same HydraFacial treatment that works to reveal fresh, glowing skin on your face by removing impurities and adding hydrating nutrients can be used to stimulate and regrow your hair.

The HydraFacial Keravive scalp treatment works to deep clean clogged hair follicles, exfoliate dead skin cells, remove impurities, stimulate circulation, and infuse the Keravive peptides with growth factors into the skin. This helps develop the perfect environment for growing healthy hair. By hydrating and infusing nutrients into your scalp’s biome, your hair follicles are rejuvenated, resulting in thicker, healthier looking hair.

Your HydraFacial Keravive hair restoration treatment requires 3 steps:

  • Step 1 – Cleanse and Exfoliate: During your in-office treatment, our Medical Assistant, Erica, uses the HydraFacial wand to extract dirt, oil and impurities from your hair, removing product buildup and stimulating circulation in your scalp.
  • Step 2 – Stimulate and Nourish: The HydraFacial wand infuses the scalp and hair with the Keravive Peptide Complex Solution with growth factors and skin proteins to improve the health of your scalp’s microbiome.
  • Step 3 – Extend and Enhance: Your provider will send you home with the HydraFacial Keravive Peptide Complex Spray for daily at-home use to stimulate and nourish the scalp and hair follicles. This 30-day supply supports scalp health between HydraFacial Keravive hair restoration treatments.

Is Hair Restoration Painful?

Hair restoration with plasma may cause some pain or discomfort during and after the procedure, depending on your pain tolerance and sensitivity.

Some people may experience mild to moderate pain at the injection site, swelling, headache, itching, scalp tenderness, or temporary bleeding. These are normal side effects and usually subside within a few days.

To manage pain, numbing cream is applied before the treatment and patients are advised to take a pain reliver such as acetaminophen following treatment.

Hair restoration with HydraFacial Keravive is painless with no downtime required.

How Many Nonsurgical Hair Restoration Treatments Will I Need?

Studies have shown that an improvement in hair growth, thickness, and density can typically be seen within 3-6 months, though some patients notice increased hair thickness following the second treatment. Patience is important, as hair grows in cycles. In most cases, a series of 3 SkinPen with plasma treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart is required to achieve desired results, but results may vary depending on each individual’s condition, goals, and response to treatment.

For optimal results, Dr. Cash recommends a series of 3 in-office HydraFacial Keravive hair restoration treatments spaced 1 month apart for 3 consecutive months along with daily use of Keravive take-home spray.

For best results, maintenance treatments are required every 4-6 months following your initial series of treatments.

Tips for Achieving Best Results

Erica recommends using a gentle, pH-balanced shampoo that does not irritate the scalp or strip the natural oils for the first few days after treatment and a topical minoxidil, a medication that stimulates hair growth, such as a shampoo or foam. Apply gently and massage the scalp lightly to stimulate blood circulation.

An oral finasteride, a medication that can prevent further hair loss, can be taken as directed by your provider.

However, you should consult with your doctor before using any of these products, as they may have side effects or interactions with other medications.
